We miss you Bella!

Last night we had to say goodbye to our dog, Bella. She has had health problems since we adopted her 4 1/2 years ago. But she has been happy. We always knew the day would come when she would die but why now? Well, I can tell you with complete faith that she waited for us to bring our baby home...

A few months ago, when we were finishing up our homestudy process for the adoption, Bella got a huge growth on her leg and the doctor said it would likely be fatal, either from the tumor or from complications related form the treatment since she has a bad heart. We thought we had to make a decision then and we were not ready. Jay kept saying that we needed to get a family picture of us, both dogs (Bella & Buddy) and our future baby. We had to bring our baby on a walk with Bella and Buddy. She couldn't die yet. And she didn't. She actually healed and I knew that God was giving us more time.

Now that we have Alex, we've gone on 2 walks with him and the dogs and we finally got that family picture 2 days ago.
Last night Bella had a seizure and we rushed her to the emergency vets. Her lungs were filled with fluid and her heart was working overboard and not doing very good. She waited for our baby to come home, and now it was her time to go Home.

It is so hard being home without our Princess Bella. But we are thankful that we had her for as long as we did, and that we got to introduce Alex to her and go for that walk and have that picture. It truely is the circle of life.

We will always remember her cute ways...how she loved running in the snow, how she would nudge our hands to keep petting her, how sweet and laid back she was. And Buddy will miss her so much - he loves his Bella! But now she is not itching and making herself bleed, she can breath normally, she is not in any pain. And we gave her a happy life.

We miss you Bella! We will never forget you, sweetie! Go Home now Bella...GO BELLA GO!

God bless you for giving this sweet girl a wonderful life in her final years. I hope you find comfort in knowing that she knew what it was to be loved and cared for, something that many animals never know in their lifetime.
And how precious that she waited for you to bring your sweet baby home! I'm so sorry for your loss, and so very happy for your little guy! He's gorgeous :)

I cried reading your post too. We have 2 dogs, one of them is close to 14! I just can't imagine what you're going through. Losing a member of your family is so hard. I'm glad she was able to meet Alex and that you'll always have that picture of your family.

I am so sorry to hear about Bella. She was so strong to hold out until you had your baby home and could take that family photo. She must have been waiting for Alex, and now she is at peace.

The picture of the 5 of you is precious. I'm so sorry for your loss. It is so sweet of Bella to hang on until little AJ arrived. Dogs are the best aren't they?

I am so sorry. I too cried reading your post. Loosing a pet is never easy. I am happy that you were able to have her long enough to have that family photo. The photo is something you will always have to remember how strong she was.

Take care

OK - so now I'm crying through your post! We lost our boy, Jordan (a black lab) back in April. He was ten years old and had lived with us basically all ten years. He too had a growth on his leg, although his turned out to be cancer. There was nothing that we could do for him. After a trip to Cornell where we learned that it was beginning to spread to his lungs and he had fractured both bones in that leg :( It was the most difficult thing we ever had to do, to actually let him go. On the upside, our other dog, Sidney (a female chocolate lab) is doing just fine. We were VERY worried about her, but she handled it better than we did. I think the toughest part for her was that she had to get used to staying home alone (the cat's not much for company). I wish you peace in knowing what an amazing life you provided for Bella.

Wow, isn't it amazing how life works? SO sad. :( Oh, also I think you should consider renaming your blog "Our Star was Born" that's what I put on my blog link for you, because that is what your first post about Alex was titled. :) No worries if you don't!!!

Alison, I bawled my eyes out reading your post about bringing Alex home and then your Bella passing away. As the owner of two dogs, Abby and Lucy and we have our little girl Emily that we adopted back in September, your story touched my heart so very much. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Alex is adorable. Congratulations on your new edition to the family. God bless you and your family!
